Marshall Baseball Drops Final Contest at Snowbird Classic to Indiana State

Ferraro, Kaiser each have multi-RBI game

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – The Marshall University Baseball team (1-7) fell in its final contest at the Snowbird Classic, 12-5, Sunday afternoon against the Indiana State Sycamores (7-0).

"We simply need to put all aspects of the game together on the same day," Herd baseball head coach Greg Beals said. "We lost free runners on base (walks and hit bats men) 11-2 today. We battled offensively and played very good defense. The big inning killed us. We get exactly what we need this week coming up in the opening of our new ballpark and we are very much looking forward to that."

At the plate, Caden Kaiser and Kebler Peralta each had three hits in the ballgame. Kaser brought home Peralta and Tre Hondras in the bottom of the third for a multi-RBI contest.

Gio Ferraro also brought home a pair runs scoring Kaser with a single in the bottom of third and again with a base hit in the bottom of the fifth.

Marshall's final run came on an Ethna Murdoch sacrifice fly that scored Calin Smith in the bottom of the eighth.

Indiana State tallied 11 of its 12 runs with three in the fourth and eight in the fifth.
Â
Alex McKay and Lenny Washington combined to throw the final 4.1 innings without giving up a run. McKay struck out three Sycamores with Washington striking out one.

Marshall is set to open Jack Cook Field on Friday for the stadium's inaugural game against Manhattan at 3 p.m.
