Marshall Softball Travels to #23 Kentucky

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall softball will play a midweek game against the 23rd-ranked Kentucky Wildcats Wednesday evening in Lexington.

First pitch is set for 6 p.m. from John Cropp Stadium. The game will be broadcast on SEC Network+.

PREGAME NOTES

As a team, Marshall is leading the Sun Belt Conference with a .327 batting average. The Herd's .972 fielding percentage is third in the league.
Junior Bub Feringa had her best outing of the season Sunday, giving up just one hit in a complete-game effort with 59 pitches thrown. Feringa and Savannah Rice - who returned to the circle Saturday - picked up victories in the series-win against Georgia Southern.
UK will be the fourth ranked opponent Marshall has seen this season. The Cats will also be the fifth NCAA Tournament team from last year that the Herd will face off against.

ABOUT THE WILDCATS

Kentucky is 19-8 on the season, with a pair of marquee wins over then No. 3 Stanford. The Wildcats have been as high as number 13 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Poll.
Fifth-year Rylea Smith leads the team with a .395 average and 32 hits. Senior Erin Coffel is the team's home run leader with nine long balls.
UK has a trio of pitchers with a sub-3.00 ERA. Senior Stephanie Schoonover has nine starts with a 2.33 ERA over 63 innings pitched.

After Wednesday's game, Marshall will travel directly from Lexington to Southern Miss to play its first SBC road series of the season.
