HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall University Baseball (2-8) dropped a close 5-4 contest to the Manhattan Jaspers (3-4) on Saturday afternoon at Jack Cook Field.

"The story of the night for us is Bryce Blevins and what an outing he gave us in relief," Herd baseball head coach Greg Beals said about his reliever. "We had a tough second inning. We couldn't get out of it. There were three free runners in that inning and two of them scored. Blevins gave us every opportunity for our offense to comeback. Unfortunately, our offense wasn't very good tonight. Give their pitching some credit being to be able to mix their pitches."

Bryce Blevin threw a gem of an outing out of the bullpen. The sophomore threw 7.1 scoreless innings on the bump with nine strikeouts, allowing just four hits and three walks.

"It was a cool moment for me, it's something you dream of," Blevins said about getting a standing ovation after exiting his appearance in the ninth.

All four of Marshall's runs came in the bottom of the seventh. Kebler Peralta and Tre Hondras each earned an RBI on a bases loaded walk each.

Calin Smith then scored on a wild pitch and Owen Ayers brought home Peralta with a RBI groundout as MU tallied all four runs without a hit in the frame.

The Herd had a pair of hits in the contest with a single by Gio Ferraro to lead off the bottom of the second and a double by Peralta to right in the third.

Manhattan tallied all five of its runs in the second inning.
