Jones, Bilby, Kalaskey all at Even after Day One at Sea Palms Resort
ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – Marshall Men's Golf has three players in the Top-25 following the first round at the Peoples Golf Championship, which started on Thursday at Sea Palms Resort in St. Simons Island, Georgia.
Both Tyler Jones and Joseph Kalaskey each had four birdies and Ryan Bilby also had three birdies as all three players shot an Even-par 71 in their first round.
"This was a really challenging day and it was great to see the guys rise up to the challenge," Marshall Men's Golf coach Matt Grobe said. "We went off later in the tee times and the wind was a challenge at the end of the round. I was very happy with our attitudes and commitment."
All three players are currently tied for 23rd place, but are just two strokes out of being in the top-10 in a jam-packed leaderboard following the tough day on the course for all 128 competitors.
Par-5s were especially kind to the golfers on Thursday with Kalaskey and Jones birdieing two of the course's four par-5s and Bilby also shaving a stroke on a par-5 to aid them in their rounds.
Cameron Jarvis also had four birdies in his round en route to a 77 while Clayton Thomas added a pair of birdies in his 79. Competing as an individual, Andrew Wyss finished with an opening round 80.
Currently, Marshall is in 12th place in the 22-team field. The Herd is just seven strokes as a team from the top-5, however, in another tight field after round one.
Marshall returns to the course for its second-round action on Friday morning with tee times slated for 9:55 a.m.
