HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Baseball team (12-23) dropped its first contest of the week to Morehead State (20-16), 7-2, on Tuesday night at Jack Cook Field.
Â
"We didn't play very good baseball tonight," Herd Baseball head coach Greg Beals said after the game. "We went down to Louisiana and lost three tough games, we played really good baseball. I told the guys it's one thing to play well and lose to a really good team. It's another thing to not play well, which was the case tonight."
Â
The Herd got on the board early after Ethan Murdoch launched the first pitch of the bottom of the second over the left-field fence for his first career homer.
Â
Murdoch then brought home his second run of the game in the bottom of third as Elijah Vogelsong scored on a ground out.
Â
Chad Heiner started on the bump for Marshall throwing 6.1 innings giving up four runs, only two earned, on four walks and three hits with three strikeouts.
Â
The Eagles used a pair of three-run innings in the third and seventh, with an insurance run in the eighth, to take the ballgame.
Â
AJ Havrilla and Owen Ayers each reached base in three of their five respective plate appearances extending their on-base streaks to 17 and 15 games, respectively. Ayers registered his Sun Belt Conference leading 15th double in the contest.
