Herd Tennis Topples JMU on Senior Day

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Tennis team (18-7, 8-2 Sun Belt) finished the regular season with a 6-1 win over the James Madison Dukes (8-12, 4-6 Sun Belt) on Saturday in Huntington.

MU honored Gabrielle Clairotte, Doroteja Joksovic and Rieke Gillar as part of the team's pre-match Senior Day ceremony.

"Great win. They got us in the last match last year, so it was good to get them in the last one this year," Herd Tennis head coach John Mercer said after the victory. "It was a good start in doubles and a really good start in singles. That's what we want to carry into the tournament."

The Herd took the doubles point behind a pair of 6-2 victories from the pairings of Sophia Hurrion and Aisling McGrane on court two along with Johanna Strom and Emma Vanderheyden on court three.

Marshall continued its momentum into singles by capturing five of the six contests. Gillar finished first at number six dropping just one game in a 6-1, 6-0, victory. Hurrion followed in straight sets (6-1, 6-4) on court four as Vanderheyden clinched the match on court two (6-2, 6-4).

Joksovic and Strom picked up the final two of The Herd's wins in straight sets on courts three and one, respectively. Joksovic has won her last nine decisions to close out the regular season.
