Herd Softball Solid in All-Around Victory Over App State Friday

Feringa holds Mountaineers to three hits in complete-game win
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Bub Feringa had a day to remember both in the circle and at the plate in Marshall softball's 7-2 win over App State Friday evening.
The Herd's (22-24) two-way player pitched a complete-game victory, allowing just three hits. The Mountaineers (19-25) were held without a hit until its only run-producing knock came with no outs in the 6th.
Feringa was a perfect 2-for-2 at the dish as well, driving in four RBI while walking twice.
Immediately producing for the Herd's pitcher Friday was Brooklyn Ulrich. MU's redshirt-sophomore hit her 11th home run of the season on the first pitch she saw to open the bottom of the 1st. In Sun Belt Conference play alone, Ulrich is hitting .462 with a league-best 30 hits, 20 runs scored, and eight doubles. She is currently on a 28-game on-base streak.
The Herd maintained its 1-0 advantage until Feringa's first two-RBI hit made it a 3-0 game after three. Feringa combined with Rielly Lucas drove in runs to double that lead after four.
Defensively, Marshall played errorless ball with two turned double plays. Sydney Bickel turned her 16th of the season with Ulrich and Lucas to end the 3rd. Bickel also singled in her 18th run of the year to cap the 7-2 win.
Freshman Destiny Washington was perfect at the plate as well, going 3-for-3. Marshall's freshman outfielder has brought her average up to .362, second best on the team.
UP NEXT
The Herd will celebrate Senior Day Saturday at Dot Hicks Field. Marshall seven seniors will be recognized before the 3 p.m. first pitch.
