Rice Dominant in Herd Softball’s 6-0 Senior Day Win

Marshall goes for series sweep Sunday at noon
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Marshall's softball team shut out the App State Mountaineers, 6-0 behind a complete-game, 84-pitch performance by senior Savannah Rice Saturday afternoon at Dot Hicks Field.
The Herd (23-24) celebrated Rice and six other seniors - Sydney Bickel, Reagan Glanz, Erica Holt, Camryn Michallas, Lydia Montague, and Kasey Wilhoit - prior to the win.
Michallas drove in the game's first run with a two-out RBI double to right-center, scoring Brooklyn Ulrich, who extended her hot hitting with three knocks, including a leadoff double.
With what followed to be a pitchers' duel over the next four innings, MU's Bella Gerlach hit home runs 14 and 15 of the season to break open the Thundering Herd advantage. Her 14th on a full count to left was a no-doubter to score Ulrich, providing insurance for Rice in the circle.
Marshall's starter scattered four hits across the seven complete innings of work, inducing seven groundouts, two of which were double plays starting with Bickel at shortstop.
The Herd again played clean defensively, with the two turns in addition to diving catches from Kasia Parks in center and Erica Holt in left.
Rice won her eighth game of the year in what was her third complete-game of the season.

The Herd plays its final home game from Dot Hicks Field for the season on Sunday starting at noon.
