Marshall Track and Field Strong in Final Showing Before Sun Belt Championship

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Marshall track and field is heading in the right direction ahead of the Sun Belt Conference Championship next month in Monroe, Louisiana.
In the teams' final regular season meet day at the Music City Challenge hosted by Vanderbilt, the Herd scored nine.
Sprinter Isaiah Valentine was part of the action with a fourth place finish in the 4x100 relay, alongside Grant Swider, Joshua Roush, and Emirh White. Valentine also finished as the 8th-best collegiate runner in the 100 meter dash.
Elsewhere on the track, the women's 400 hurdles continued its strong showing. Mikah Alleyne and Dezire Gee each set season-bests with 3rd and 6th place finishes for Director of Track and Field Keith Roberts' team.
"This weekend was our best team performance of the year," Roberts said. "We had student-athletes set personal bests in every event area and move up on the conference list. Rebecca Merritt set the tone with her NCAA 1st round qualifying mark in the discus. She has been working hard and it is great to see it paying off. The team showed me today that they are ready to compete. I look forward to a great week of training and preparation for the Sun Belt Championship."
Merritt alongside Markayla Moore scored in the Hammer Throw Saturday. Transfer John Purvis placed in the Men's Shot Put.
