Tyler Jones earns 1st team honors; Ryan Bilby also a 2nd team selection for Herd

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Men's Golf landed a pair of players on the Sun Belt Conference's All-SBC Men's Golf teams, the league announced on Monday afternoon.

Marshall graduate Tyler Jones was named as an All-SBC First Team selection while junior Ryan Bilby was tabbed as an All-SBC Second Team honoree.

"What a great day for Marshall Golf!" Marshall Men's Golf coach Matt Grobe said. "We haven't had two players on an All-Conference team since I have been here, and it shows that we are building a good program with good kids that work hard. This spring was incredible and the kids kept improving as the spring went on. This should be great for not only Tyler and Ryan, but the whole team heading into the summer and Fall 2024."

For Jones, it was his second consecutive year being honored by the Sun Belt after being named as a Third Team selection in 2023.

This year, Jones took his game to the next level, finishing the 2023-24 season ranked No. 2 in stroke average in the Sun Belt at 71.08.

The Westerville, Ohio native finished his Spring 2024 season with three consecutive top-10 finishes, culminating with a T-7 finish at the 2024 SBC Championship in which he fired a final-round 69. That final round at 3-under helped Marshall solidify a berth in the 2024 SBC Match Play semifinals.

The effort came after Jones finished T-4 at the Mountaineer Invitational – a tournament in which he fired an opening round 6-under 66, which was his best score to par in the 2023-24 campaign. That effort earned him the SBC Men's Golfer of the Week award for the final week of the season.

Jones also finished T-10 at the Golfweek/AGT Intercollegiate this spring and had a T-4 finish at the Joe Feaganes Invitational in the fall.

During the 2023-24 year, Jones earned four top-10 finishes and also finished in the top-20 in eight of nine tournaments.

The model of consistency, Jones never had a round above a 75 in any of the nine tournaments in which he entered.

"Tyler Jones had an incredible career at Marshall and what a great way to be rewarded for all he has done!" Grobe said. "He has been a leader in every area since he arrived on campus. He had a great year and I am so happy to he was honored as First-Team All-Conference. We will miss Tyler, but we look forward to watching his professional career."

Bilby also continued his ascent up the Sun Belt ranks in the spring, earning an All-SBC Second Team accolade for his performance throughout the year.

The junior from Follansbee, W.Va., was named to the 2024 SBC All-Tournament Team after a 3rd place finish in the 2024 SBC Championship – his best individual finish of the year.

Bilby finished at No. 3 in the SBC in stroke average at 71.38, which put him only behind Arkansas State's Thomas Schmidt and Jones.

The 2023-24 season featured four top-10 results for Bilby, who finished in the top-25 in his final seven events. The talented junior also finished at Even-par or better in seven of 11 tournaments entered.

In addition to the 3rd place finish in the SBC Championship, Bilby had T-4 results at the Joe Feaganes Invitational and Virtues Intercollegiate in the fall, as well as a T-9 finish at the Mountaineer Intercollegiate.

Nicknamed "Big Shot Bilby" by teammates, he also carded Marshall's top round of the year – a 64 in the opening round of the Virtues Intercollegiate. It was one of 13 rounds at 70 or lower out of 31 rounds played this year.
