Darnley Throws Out Pair Friday Evening at Texas State

Herd falls 5-4 at Bobcats
SAN MARCOS, Texas — Marshall's starting catcher Abby Darnley caught two runners stealing in the Herd's 5-4 loss at Texas State Friday evening.
Darnley, a sophomore from Eleanor, West Virginia, became the first MU backstop to throw out multiple runners since Kat Sackett did so in 2021 for the Herd.
Marshall (24-26) had seven hits against the league's top pitching staff. Coach Morgan Zerkle's team scored three runs in the 1st, with senior Camryn Michallas singling to left to score Bella Gerlach. It would be the first of two RBI hits for Michallas.
Following the Michallas single, the game was halted by a 62-minute rain delay.
Senior Sydney Bickel walked on four pitches following the resumption to bring in Marshall's second run, with Michallas scoring on a wild pitch for the Herd's third.
The Bobcats (41-13) did its damage with a three-run, two-out home run in the 5th to take a 5-3 lead. The inning started with a Bobcat reaching on an error, a play upheld after a lengthy review.
In addition to the two hits from Michallas, Brooklyn Ulrich hit two more doubles. A day after her 14-game hitting streak ended, Ulrich had her 21st multi-hit game, bringing her average to .402, one of just five players in the conference to be above .400.
