Herd Softball Off to Lone Star State to Close Regular Season

Marshall faces Texas State for three-game series starting Thursday
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall softball travels to San Marcos to face the Texas State Bobcats. The series opener is at 7 p.m. eastern Thursday, 6 p.m. local time. For the weekend's program, view HERE.
San Marcos is also the host site of the 2024 Sun Belt Conference Softball Championship. Upon closing the regular season Saturday, Coach Morgan Zerkle's Herd will remain in the area in preparation for the tournament starting next week.Â

- The Herd enters the final week of the regular season 7th in the SBC Standings. The tournament schedule for the aforementioned Championship can be found HERE.
- As a team, Marshall is leading the SBC with a .329 batting average. The Herd exploded for 18 runs in its series-sweeping win over App State Sunday, a number which tied a program-record for most runs in a game.Â
- Marshall's Savannah Rice gave up just one earned run across 13 innings in the span of three games last week.Â
ABOUT THE BOBCATS
- Texas State is 39-13 and possesses the 17th-best RPI in the country. The Bobcats are the only team to top Louisiana in SBC-play this season. Â
- Senior pitcher Jessica Mullins is one of the top pitchers not only in the conference, but in the nation. Mullins tops the conference with a 1.23 ERA and 189 strikeouts. She leads the country with 26 wins in the circle.
- The Herd and Bobcats met for the first time last season. Marshall won the middle game of the three-game set behind Rice's six innings of one-run ball.Â
