HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Coach Rafa Simoes era started with the Marshall women's soccer program playing to a 1-1 draw Thursday night against Morehead State in front of 903 fans at Hoops Family Field.
"It was awesome to have so much of a crowd today," Coach Simoes said. "So many people that I know along the years [were here]. Of course you want to win but it takes brick-by-brick and there are a lot of things we need to get better. But it means the world to be playing here where I consider home. I appreciate all the fans coming."

The fans' first crowd in Huntington was ignited by graduate senior forward Ebony Leckey's 11th minute goal. The Northern Irish striker is one of 19 newcomers for the first-year head coach.
Morehead State equalized on a cross in the 41st minute. The Eagles' goal was one of four on-goal chances the visitors created, with junior goalkeeper Alexis Wolgemuth making a trio of saves after an injury-shortened 2023 season.
The Herd had several opportunities for a winner, including a chance from Bailey Fisher, who notched the 11th minute assist earlier in the match.
