Herd dominant in winning by 15 strokes; Jarvis’ 8-under takes tourney by one stroke

Final Results

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall senior Cameron Jarvis sank a par putt on No. 18 to finish at 8-under and secure a one-stroke victory in the 2024 Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational.

The putt concluded a banner day for Marshall's team, who had a ton of highlights en route to a 15-stroke victory for the team title over Longwood.

"I had to get up and down from some crazy places about four holes in a row, so to finally have a semi-easy two-putt at the end was nice," Jarvis said. "It's surreal. I'm more proud of us as a team than I am of winning myself. We came out here and grinded all week long and competed as individuals and as part of the team. It's a great group of guys that every single day put their best foot forward and I'm so happy to see them celebrate when we win. It's just great."

Jarvis made a birdie on No. 10 to move to 8-under and hit several shots down the stretch to save pars and keep competitors at bay as he finished with his third straight round of par or better to finish off the tournament victory.

"We saw that at the W.Va. Amateur two years ago when Cameron held everybody off to win against a really solid field," Marshall Golf coach Matt Grobe said. "I think the more our kids get into the position where you have a chance, you learn how to close those things. Cameron knew how to close it. He did a really good job of making sure that he continued to make pars. He understood people would make mistakes trying to be too aggressive and he kept making pars and forcing them to catch him and nobody could catch him."

In addition to Jarvis' victory in the event, Marshall had three players finish in the top-5 and five players in the top-20 after several impressive performances during the week.

J.F. Aber and Clayton Thomas each finished tied for third place at 6-under for the tournament with both having two of the week's highlight rounds.

Aber concluded his first tournament in a Marshall uniform in style, birdieing his final five holes and seven of his last nine to overcome early struggles in a 4-under 67 that moved him into a tie with Thomas at 6-under.

The impressive feat came one round after Thomas' 9-under 62 tied a course and Marshall program record. Thomas had an eagle on his card Tuesday in a final round 71 that kept him in contention for the title.

Andrew Wyss and Ryan Bilby each finished in the top-20 after finishing the tournament 1-under par as well.

Playing as an individual, Wyss had the best round of his Marshall career, carding a 5-under 66 to get back into the red numbers for the tournament. He carded six birdies on the day, including three straight on Hole Nos. 3-5.

Bilby also had three birdies en route to a final round 70 that continued the strong play for the Herd.

"It just shows you how talented this team is," Grobe said. "We have a ton of talent, so the good thing is, it doesn't take the whole team having to play great. We just need a couple people to play great because the others are good. If you look at what we had going on, we had Clayton's incredible Round 1, you had Cameron Jarvis' incredible Round 2, then you had J.F. Aber shoot 29 (on the back) in Round 3 and Andrew Wyss shoot 66. It shows you we had a different person step up each round. We've got several different people who can step up and play great golf for us."

Marshall Men's Golf is back in action next week at the River Run Collegiate in Davidson, North Carolina.
