Herd Women’s Cross Country finishes 4th; Men’s 6th
BOONE, N.C. - Marshall senior Kylee Mastin set a new 6K personal-best time of 20:57 in a 3rd place finish Friday at App State's Firetower Project Run. The New Carlisle, Ohio native's time led all Sun Belt Conference athletes at the meet.
Mastin's result led the Marshall women to a 4th place finish out of 11 teams.
The Herd men were led by freshman James Lipscomb, who made his collegiate 8K debut with a time of 25:04. A pack of Marshall men's runners followed Lipscomb's lead to finish 6th out of 10.
"Today was our first race at our true 8K and 6K distances," Head Coach Caleb Bowen said. "It was exciting to see where everyone is at with their fitness. I told the girls that running the extra kilometer today will make the 5K feel easier at the Conference meet."
"Our men's one-through-five split was a little over 60 seconds, so that is pretty good for our first 8K."
"Our women's one-through-five split was a little bigger than we would have liked, but for our first 6K, it was still pretty good."
