Senior cards 2nd straight top-3 finish; Ryan Bilby also finishes T-7 after 1-under 71

Final Results

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Marshall senior J.F. Aber finished tied for 2nd place after carding a 1-under 71 on the final day at the River Run Collegiate in Davidson, N.C.

It was the second consecutive top-3 finish for Aber, who also was T-3 in the season-opening Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational last week.

"J.F. played great this week and had a chance to get the win coming down the stretch," Marshall Men's Golf coach Matt Grobe said. "Conditions were tough at the start of the round and the course was wet and challenging."

Aber started his round with a double-bogey on Hole No. 10, but turned his play up to another level over his last 14 holes as he went bogey-free to move into contention down the stretch.

Aber's biggest move came at the par-5 2nd hole when he recorded an eagle that pushed him to 1-under on the round. He then birdied No. 6 to secure his place as one of only six golfers in the field to end the event under-par for the tournament.

Aber was joined in red numbers on Tuesday by Marshall senior Ryan Bilby, who carded a 1-under 71 that vaulted him into a tie for 7th place in the tournament, as well.

Bilby carded the second-most birdies in the field during Tuesday's final round, finishing with five on the day to stay under-par and earn a top-10 finish. The senior from Follansbee, W.Va., registered consecutive birdies on Hole Nos. 5 and 6 to end the round with momentum.

Clayton Thomas also shot a final round 75 to finish the event tied for 31st place, which helped the Herd to a 5th place finish in the team competition.

"Ryn continued his solid play and gave us two solid rounds," Grobe said. "Clayton fought really hard and also put up two solid numbers. We are already looking forward to getting back on the course."

Marshall returns to action on Sept. 28-29 at the Virtues Intercollegiate, hosted by Bowling Green in Nashport, Ohio.
