Herd Women’s Soccer Starts Fast, Defeats Troy 3-0

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall women's soccer (3-4-2, 1-1-1 SBC) remains unbeaten at home following a 3-0 victory Sunday over Troy (4-4-2, 0-1-1 SBC) at Hoops Family Field.
A 3rd-minute goal from Ebony Leckey kickstarted the Herd offense on a turnaround strike in the box. The earliest goal of the season for Marshall would be enough for goalkeeper Alexis Wolgemuth and the MU defense. Wolgemuth's third cleansheet of the season makes her 3rd all-time in program history with 10.

"We started sharp today from minute one," Simoes said. "Credit to Troy for being a really organized team with a really good coach. Fortunately Ebony put in a really good goal to go up 1-0 and we managed the game from there. All the credit goes to the players today."

Marshall put the game away with two second half goals in quick succession. Junior Ami Komori scored her first goal for the Herd on a feed from Bailey Fisher in the 65th. Marshall's junior from Hurricane also provided the assist for Leckey earlier.
Fisher headed in a goal of her own eight minutes later on a free kick delivered from Lea Misch, completing the offensive surge. The three-goal breakout marks the most MU has had in a game this year.
Marshall now gets a week to rest following a three-match week. The Herd hosts Georgia Southern from Hoops Family Field next Sunday, Oct. 13 at 1 p.m.
