Wolgemuth makes a season-high in saves in goal
ATHENS, Ohio - Marshall (1-3-1) came up on the wrong end of a 2-0 result against the defending MAC Champions, Ohio (3-1-1).
OU's decisive goal before the end of an evenly played first half came on a "brilliant" strike in the 43rd minute.
Marshall had its share of chances particularly in the first half, with shots on goal down the wings from Amelia Compston and Bailey Fisher. The Herd had an even amount of shots on target as the hosts in the opening 45.
"The first half we were really good, I feel we had the best chance in the first half, if we score there it's 1-0," Coach Rafa Simoes said. "They came at us as expected, a really good team which won the MAC last year and then they scored a brilliant goal and that changed the game a bit."
Ohio would add its second amid high pressure in the 65th.
"The second goal was on our mistake and we were not good in the second half," Simoes said. "We are going to really watch and see our mistakes. When we have our moments we have to put the ball in the back of the net at the end of the day. Very proud of them as always but we have to be better than the second half."
Goalkeeper Alexis Wolgemuth had a season-high eight saves in goal.
Marshall comes home to Huntington for a 1 p.m. kick Sunday from Hoops Family Field. The Herd and Indiana State face off on Sunday, Sept. 8 For tickets, click HERE.
