Marshall CB Boogie Trotter Named SBC Defensive Player of the Week

Herd’s defensive playmaker forced two turnovers that led to 14 points in ODU win
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall senior cornerback Boogie Trotter was named as the Sun Belt Conference's Defensive Player of the Week, the league released on Monday.
The announcement comes following Trotter's standout game for the Herd defense in a 48-24 win over Old Dominion on Saturday.
Going against the SBC's top offense, Trotter made his mark early, opening the scoring in the game when he intercepted ODU quarterback Colton Joseph and returned the interception 22 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter.
Trotter wasn't done there as later he added the game's biggest play – a late second quarter strip of ODU running back T. Jones, which he also recovered to give the Herd possession in ODU territory just before halftime. The Herd cashed in on the opportunity with Carlos Del Rio-Wilson's 6-yard touchdown run that put the team up 24-7.
The interception was the fourth of the season for Trotter, who is tied for third in FBS in interceptions and also is tied for second in FBS in turnovers forced with five.
For the game, Trotter's stat line was full as he finished with five tackles, including a tackle for loss with an interception, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and a pass breakup.
Trotter's inclusion as the SBC Defensive Player of the Week is the second superlative SBC honor of the season for Marshall as he joins quarterback Carlos Del Rio-Wilson, who was the Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 22.
Trotter and the Marshall defense will again face one of the Sun Belt's best this weekend when the Herd hosts Texas State at Joan C. Edwards Stadium for Homecoming 2025. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and you can buy tickets HERE.
