In all, Herd has 10 players awarded Sun Belt Conference honors

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Football had three players named as First Team All-SBC and 10 players honored by the league overall, as announced in postseason accolades on Thursday morning.

"I'm incredibly proud of the efforts these guys showed in earning the All-SBC honors," Marshall head coach Tony Gibson said. "We had some incredible individual performances this season and I'm happy the league recognized them for their play."

Marshall freshman kicker Lorcan Quinn, cornerback Boogie Trotter and tight end Toby Payne all earned the First Team All-SBC honors for their stellar play at their positions in the 2025 season.

Quinn's honor solidifies one of college football's best stories from the 2025 season as he ascended from a former Gaelic footballer who had never even been to an American football practice to the Sun Belt's top kicker and one of the best in all of college football.

Quinn ended the season as Marshall's all-time single-season record holder for field goals with 21, becoming the first Herd kicker in history with 20 or more. His four field goals of 50-plus yards also established a Marshall career record.

The Donaghmore, Northern Ireland native finished the season 21 of 26 on field goal attempts, which tied him for 9th in the nation in made field goals. He also was No. 3 in FBS in kickoff average at 64.8 with 61 touchbacks out of 71 kickoff attempts.

Like Quinn, Trotter was among the best in FBS this season at his position as well, tying for 3rd in interceptions with five while also tying for the nation's lead in interception returns for a touchdown with two – both of which came in SBC play.

Trotter finished with a team-high 74 tackles while also adding 10 passes defended (5 INTs, 5 PBUs) and a forced fumble and fumble recovery.

The Nashville, Tenn., native was one of only two players in the nation to register 70-plus tackles and 5 interceptions, joining SMU's Ahmaad Moses in that unique category.

Payne, who was also a 2025 Preseason All-SBC selection at tight end, was the clear-cut leader among tight ends in the SBC, pacing all tight ends within the conference with 36 catches for 387 yards and three touchdowns.

The 36 catches were also the second-most on Marshall's team in 2025 and his 387 yards and three touchdowns were third on the team.

He was also a key figure in a Marshall run-blocking attack that produced more than 2,600 yards in the 2025 season.

Representing Marshall on the All-SBC Second Team were punter Nathan Totten and wide receiver Demarcus Lacey.

Like Quinn in the kicking department, Totten was a difference-maker on the Herd special teams unit in his first year at his position.

The Ashland, Kentucky, native set the Marshall single-season punting average record at 45.6 yards per punt. Totten's long punt on the year was 63 yards and he had three games in which he averaged more than 50 yards per punt for the game. Totten finished the year with 56 punts for 2,551 yards with 19 of 50-plus yards and 20 punts inside the 20-yard line.

Lacey was one of the biggest yard-producers across all phases in the Sun Belt, amassing 1,133 all-purpose yards on 101 total touches. He led Marshall in receptions (65), receiving yards (769) and touchdown catches (5) while also rushing for 157 yards on 19 carries and serving as one of the SBC's most dangerous punt returners with 207 yards on 17 returns.

Marshall offensive lineman Jalen Slappy represented the Herd on the All-SBC Third Team after helping lead the Herd offense to one of the most prolific offenses in the league.

Slappy started at either right guard or right tackle in all 13 games this season while serving as one of the leaders in the locker room as well.

In addition to those selections to the first three teams, Marshall had four players named as All-SBC Honorable Mention selections: quarterback Carlos Del Rio-Wilson, defensive lineman Paul Hutson III, linebacker Jayland Parker and defensive back Daytione Smith.
