AUSTIN, Texas – Marshall University sophomore swimmers Kseniia Luniushina and Lauren McNamara closed out a historic three days for the swimming program at the 2025 US Open in Austin, Texas, on Saturday.
Couldn't be more pleased with how these two navigated the week, Herd Swimming and Diving Head Coach Ian Walsh said. This competition had some of the fastest performances in the history of our sport. Our student-athletes represented Marshall first class standing toe to toe with Olympic athletes.
Highlighting the three days for The Herd in Austin were three long-course program records with two set by McNamara and one by Luniushina. McNamara closed the event by setting the 200m Butterfly record and winning the B Final in 2:14.83 on Saturday night while also setting the 100m record with a time of 1:01.53 with each performance also being a lifetime best.
Luniushina set a program record in 50m Backstroke with a time of 30.18 on Thursday and swam a personal best 1:03.83 in 100m Backstroke on Friday.
Not many athletes walked away with lifetime best performances that were at this meet. Lolo and Kseniia had four lifetime best performances, broke three school records, and a US Open final. These meets are great experiences for our student athletes and prepare them for competitions like our conference meet and NCAAs.
