HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Feb. 28 contest between Marshall Men's Basketball and App State has been elevated to national television and will be a 9 p.m. tip-off, the Sun Belt Conference announced on Thursday morning.
The Senior Day contest was the final selection of five Wild-Card contests picked up by ESPN networks, as part of an agreement with the SBC for the 2024-25 season. The game will be shown on either ESPN2 or ESPNU.
"Anytime we are able to showcase our programs and our fan base on national television, it is exciting," said Christian Spears, Marshall's Director of Athletics. "Feb. 28 will be an incredible day of sports at Marshall, highlighted by our Senior Day contest on national TV against a rival our fanbase is passionate about in App State. We look forward to our fans showing up so we can show the nation how special Marshall University is."
It marks the second contest this season in which Marshall Men's Basketball has been elevated to national television. The first was a Feb. 5 matchup against Arkansas State in which Marshall earned a 77-72 win over the Red Wolves on ESPNU.
Feb. 28 will be a jam-packed afternoon for Marshall Athletics with the home opener for Marshall Baseball at 3 p.m. at Jack Cook Field before action transitions to Cam Henderson Center for a Senior Day doubleheader in hoops action as both Marshall Men's Basketball and Marshall Women's Basketball wrap up the regular season.
The doubleheader starts at 6 p.m. when Marshall Women's Basketball takes on Georgia State with Senior Day festivities taking place prior to the contest. Following that game's completion, Marshall Men's Basketball will also go through Senior Day festivities prior to their 9 p.m. nationally-televised game with the Mountaineers.
That evening, Marshall fans also can meet and take photos with "The Space Gal" Emily Calandrelli, a West Virginia native who has the distinction of being the 100th Woman in Space.
Calandrelli, who is from Morgantown, is also an MIT engineer, an Emmy-nominated science TV host of FOX's "Xploration Outer Space" and the Netflix original series "Emily's Wonder Lab" and a NYTimes best-selling author for the Children's book "Stay Curious and Keep Exploring: Next Level".
