Awards highlight pair of T-2 finishes for McLatchey at RiverTowne, Bilby at Loyola
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall seniors Emily McLatchey and Ryan Bilby pulled off the Sun Belt Conference sweep as both were named as Golfers of the Week by the SBC on Thursday.
McLatchey earned the SBC Women's Golfer of the Week award after playing consistent golf in a T-2 finish at the RiverTowne Invitational at RiverTowne Country Club in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
"Emily played great this week and was in control of every aspect of her game," Marshall Women's Golf coach Brooke Burkhammer said. "She works really hard and I'm extremely proud of her."
McLatchey's started her tournament with an Even-par 72, then followed it with a 1-under 71 in the second round to put herself in contention heading into the final day.
Her final round 73 secured the T-2 finish and solidified her as one of only four players in the field to finish at Even-par or better for the tournament. McLatchey's performance also led the Herd to a 2nd place finish in the team standings.
Bilby nabbed SBC Men's Golfer of the Week honors following an impressive showing at Loyola Intercollegiate in which he finished at 12-under, which was also good for a T-2 finish at Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Ariz.
Bilby started the tournament with a 9-under 63, which tied for the second-lowest round to par and third-lowest single round score in Marshall Men's Golf history. He followed with rounds of 71 and 70 to finish with three rounds under par to start spring.
Out of 116 players, Bilby finished No. 1 overall in the field with 21 birdies.
"Ryan had a wonderful start to the spring season," Marshall Men's Golf coach Matt Grobe said. "Leading the field in birdies and having a chance to get the win coming down the stretch was fun to watch. He worked incredibly hard over the winter and it showed. I look forward to watching him continue his great play at the 2025 Peoples Championship at Sea Palms."
