Marshall Softball Hosts Ranked Liberty Tuesday from Dot Hicks Field

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Fresh off a 6-0 weekend at the Marshall March Madness Invitational, Head Coach Morgan Zerkle's Thundering Herd (12-11) hosts the 24th ranked team in the country, Liberty (20-3).  Â
First pitch from Dot Hicks Field is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday.Â

Coach Morgan Zerkle
- Marshall is in its second season under Head Coach Morgan Zerkle. The 2017 All-American for the Herd led the team that season with a .476 average en route to a NCAA Tournament appearance. The Herd has made two NCAA Regionals in its history (2013 & 2017). Â
- Zerkle - the Milton, West Virginia native - has been drafted to the AUSL's Bandits this past January, alongside Assistant Coach Sydney McKinney.Â
MARSHALL NOTES
- Tuesday will be Marshall's fifth game in 2025 against a ranked opponent. The Herd defeated the last Top-25 team to come to Dot Hicks Field, when MU took down No. 24 Virginia Tech on Apr. 15, 2023 (2-1).
- Marshall is coming off a weekend in which the team broke through offensively, hitting 10 home runs with 64 hits and 52 runs across the six games. Senior Kasia Parks led the way with a .554 average with 10 hits in 18 at-bats. Â
- The Herd also found success in the circle, with sophomore Jules King earning two complete-game victories. Pitchers Maddie Veal and Lindsay Henson also earned their first MU victories in relief.Â
- Tuesday will be the final game before Marshall starts Sun Belt Conference play Friday at home against the defending regular season champions, Louisiana.Â

ABOUT LIBERTY
- Liberty is currently ranked no. 24 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top-25 poll. The Flames have appeared in the last four NCAA Regionals. LU is five-time conference champions under Head Coach Dot Richardson.
- The Flames swept Kennesaw State in its opening CUSA series of the season with Rachel Roupe and Elena Escobar sweeping the league's weekly awards.Â
- Marshall is 12-7 all-time against Liberty, but the Flames have won the last four in the series.Â
