Herd Wins Fifth League Game in Final At-Bat, Evens Series at South Alabama

MOBILE, Ala. — Marshall Softball remains tied for second in the Sun Belt Conference following its 7-5 victory over South Alabama. The rubber game of the series will be at 1 p.m. eastern Sunday, noon locally.
The Herd (23-18, 9-5 SBC) tallied two in the Top of the 7th, with a RBI double by Abby Darnley to give the team its first lead of the contest. It is Marshall's fourth SBC victory by way of scoring in the 7th inning or later. It is also the sixth overall win in the team's final at-bat this season.

Twice the Jags (16-24, 5-8 SBC) led by two runs or more. MU would not waiver against the hosts' ace, tying the game in the 3rd with consecutive RBI doubles by Rielly Lucas and Diamond Leslie.
After a three-run 4th, Marshall would again answer with a three-run home run by Leslie. The Herd's freshman matched a career-high with four runs driven in.

Leslie was also responsible for a pair of web gems in left field, including a perfectly executed throw to cut down on a runner attempting to extend a single into a double.

Junior Paige Manyard earned the win in relief, her team-leading ninth victory in the circle. She allowed just three hits over the final 3.1 IP, working out of a bases loaded jam to end the game.
Senior Bub Feringa battled to keep the Herd in the game, stranding six runners on-base.
