Softball Travels to South Alabama for Three-Game Set

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Tied for second place in the Sun Belt Conference, Marshall's softball team (22-17, 8-4 SBC) travels to Mobile for its first-ever road series at South Alabama (15-23, 4-7 SBC).
First pitch Friday is scheduled for 7 p.m. eastern, 6 p.m. local.

Coach Morgan Zerkle
- Marshall is in its second season under Head Coach Morgan Zerkle. The 2017 All-American for the Herd led the team that season with a .476 average en route to a NCAA Tournament appearance. The Herd has made two NCAA Regionals in its history (2013 & 2017).
- Zerkle - the Milton, West Virginia native - has been drafted to the AUSL's Bandits this past January, alongside Assistant Coach Sydney McKinney.
MARSHALL NOTES
- The Herd is fourth in the SBC in team hitting with a .306 average. Marshall hopes to drive more runners in, following a season-high 14 runners left on base in its midweek game at Kentucky Wednesday.
- Senior Rielly Lucas is at the top of many hitting categories in the league, including home runs where she tied for second with 13 long balls. Her .761 slugging percentage is fourth.

ABOUT SOUTH ALABAMA
- South Alabama is 15-23 overall. The Jags were swept in three close games on the road at Texas State last weekend with a 4-7 league record.
- Senior and Mobile native Gabby Stagner leads the team with a .340 average. Earlier this year she became USA's all-time leader in RBI.
- Sophomore Ryley Harrison leads the team with a 2.84 ERA, which is fifth in the conference.
- South Alabama leads the all-time series, 2-1. This weekend will be the first meeting in conference series. Marshall won the two-sides only meeting since 2023 when the Herd won in the SBC Semifinals.
