Herd Falls in Midweek at Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Marshall Softball (22-17) returns to Sun Belt Conference Friday following its 7-3 loss Wednesday to Kentucky (24-17).
MU had no shortage of base runners, with 14 total left on base, eight stranded in scoring position.
Of Marshall's nine hits, four starters had multi-hit games. Rielly Lucas, Abby Darnley, Brooklyn Ulrich, and hometown senior Kasia Parks each finished with two hits apiece.
Junior Paige Simpson scored Marshall's first run in the 6th on the UK error. Ulrich would score in the same fashion an inning later after a Bub Feringa sacrifice fly.
Two big innings downed the Herd, with three in the 3rd and four in the 5th from the hosts.
Outside of the 3rd and 5th, Marshall saw efficient pitching from starter Paige Maynard, who went 2.1 IP allowing four hits. Sophomore Jules King pitched 1.2 scoreless with a pair of strikeouts. Sophomore Kaleea Washington finished the Wildcats in order in the 6th.
Marshall travels in the morning for its Friday contest at South Alabama. The series opener is set for 7 p.m. eastern, 6 p.m. local time.
