POINT CLEAR, Ala. – Marshall Women's Golf senior Emily McLatchey fired a 1-over 73 to finish Day One in 11th place overall at the 2025 Sun Belt Conference Women's Golf Championship at Lakewood Golf Club in Point Clear, Alabama.
McLatchey's Day One effort included a final nine-hole stretch in which she went 2-under with a pair of birdies and seven pars to gain momentum going into Tuesday's second round.
The Herd started the day on the back nine and navigated the tough stretch of holes before finding its rhythm and starting to drop birdies on the front-9 – the team's second nine of the day.
McLatchey was among those seeing success on the front-9 as she started with a pair of pars before logging consecutive birdies on Hole Nos. 3 and 4 to move into the top-15. She ended her day with five straight pars to remain within five shots of the lead heading into Tuesday.
Madison Borders also had a solid round for the Herd, avoiding any major trouble to card a 4-over 76, which ties her for 34th spot. Abbey Bull added a 6-over 78 while Olivia Kochan and Savannah Hawkins each finished the day at 8-over.
Currently, Marshall is tied for 12th place in a tightly-contested field in which the gap between 4th place – the cut-off to make Match Play on Thursday – and the Herd is just 11 strokes.
Second round action for Marshall's players will get underway starting at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday off Hole No. 10.
