Herd Baseball Drops Series Finale at No. 21 Coastal Carolina

CONWAY, S.C. – The Marshall University Baseball team (18-22, 6-12 SBC) fell in the series final 13-5 at No. 21 Coastal Carolina (30-10, 14-4 SBC) on Saturday in Conway, South Carolina.
CCU answered with three runs in the bottom of the third to have MU at a 6-5 disadvantage.
The Chanticleers added three more in each of the fourth and fifth frames with another insurance run in the eighth as The Herd fell in the series finale.
UP NEXT
Marshall is back in action on Tuesday as it hosts Morehead State at 6 p.m.

CONWAY, S.C. – The Marshall University Baseball team (18-22, 6-12 SBC) fell in the series final 13-5 at No. 21 Coastal Carolina (30-10, 14-4 SBC) on Saturday in Conway, South Carolina.
"Tough weekend for us against a very strong opponent," Herd Baseball Head Coach Greg Beals said. "This is the first time all season that we didn't respond to tough competition. We just ran through a very tough stretch in conference play, we have ourselves behind in the standings but an opportunity down the stretch to control our own destiny relative to qualifying for the conference tournament."
Eddie Leon brought home Maika Niu for the first run of the game on a sacrifice fly in the top of first. The Chanticleers answered with three runs in the bottom half of the frame.
The Herd answered back in the top of the third. AJ Havrilla brought home Jackson Halter with a single as a Tyler Kamerer sacrifice fly scoring Havrilla. A Cam Harthan single brought home Leon as Elijah Vogelsong scored on a wild pitch to take a 5-3 lead.
