Herd Softball Sweeps Tuesday Doubleheader Over Radford

4/22/2025 8:20:00 PM | Softball

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Marshall's softball team (26-21) swept Radford (26-24) in a midweek doubleheader Tuesday at Dot Hicks Field and in the process earned wins 50 and 51 for Head Coach Morgan Zerkle. With the pair of wins, the Herd has now surpassed last season's win total.

The Herd was led by strong pitching with sophomore Kaleea Washington earning the win in her first start of 2025.

"It's so refreshing to have young coaches who still play," Washington said. "They understand the importance of what we go through every day, day-in and day-out. It's really amazing for [Coach Zerkle] and for us the players to show up for her is really important."

Offensively, redshirt junior Brooklyn Ulrich had a breakout performance with four hits in six at-bats and six runs batted in.

First Game: Marshall 5, Radford 1

Ulrich drove in Kasia Parks with a shot over the right fielder's head in the 2nd to open the scoring. She would drive in a three more with a shot over the right field wall two frames later.

The runs came in support of senior Bub Feringa who scattered four hits across five innings of work. She earned the win with Jules King picking up the save finishing off the final two frames.

Sophomore Haleigh Adkins hit her seventh of the season to score the Herd's fifth run. Adkins, Parks, and Ulrich each have seven long balls this season after hitting one today, tied for second on the team.

Second Game: Marshall 3, Radford 0

An infield single greeted Washington to begin the second game, before Marshall's sophomore kept the Highlanders hitless over the next five innings. Washington was efficient with just 43 pitches needed to get through five, retiring the final 11 batters she faced.

Parks and Ulrich did the offensive damage in the 4th, with Brooklyn's RBI hit bouncing off the top of the centerfield wall at Dot Hicks Field.

Parks finished the day with three hits.
