Herd Softball Travels to Georgia Southern For Penultimate SBC Series

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - With two weeks remaining in the regular season, Marshall's softball team (26-21, 10-8 SBC) travels to Statesboro, Ga. to face Georgia Southern (27-20, 11-7 SBC).Â
First pitch Friday is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Coach Morgan Zerkle
- Marshall is in its second season under Head Coach Morgan Zerkle. The 2017 All-American for the Herd led the team that season with a .476 average en route to a NCAA Tournament appearance. The Herd has made two NCAA Regionals in its history (2013 & 2017). Â
- Zerkle - the Milton, West Virginia native - has been drafted to the AUSL's Bandits this past January, alongside Assistant Coach Sydney McKinney.Â
- Zerkle earned her 50th win as the Herd's head coach on Tuesday over Radford.Â
MARSHALL NOTES
- The Herd pitched its third shutout of the season in the second game of a midweek doubleheader sweep over Radford. Sophomore Kaleea Washington retired 11 straight hitters to finish her five-inning outing in the win.Â
- Redshirt junior Brooklyn Ulrich drove in six runs on four hits in the doubleheader. The Preseason SBC Player of the Year is second on the team with a .329 average and is one of three players on the team with seven home runs.Â

ABOUT GEORGIA SOUTHERN
- Georgia Southern is 27-20 overall, and 11-7 in the Sun Belt Conference. The Eagles are on pace to continue its trend of getting better each season under fourth-year head coach Sharon Perkins.Â
- GS is statistically the top team in the conference in pitching (2.31 ERA) and fielding (.980 FLD%). Leading the strong staff is freshman Maddie Johnson with a Sun Belt-best 1.64 ERA across 141.0 IP.
- Marshall leads the all-time series, 23-8. The two sides last met in a 10-inning thriller in the SBC Tournament last season, with the Herd coming away with a 3-1 win.Â
