Softball Closes Regular Season at Home Against Georgia State

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - A jam-packed weekend on and off the field awaits Marshall's softball team (28-22, 12-9 SBC) as it closes the 2025 regular season at Dot Hicks Field against Georgia State (12-38, 3-18 SBC). 

The Herd will celebrate five graduates (Bub Feringa, Lindsay Henson, Rielly Lucas, Kasia Parks and Brooklyn Ulrich) prior to Saturday's home finale. The evening before will be Emileigh Cooper Day as one of the graduates will be honored with the yearly Warrior Award named in memory of Cooper. 

The festivities come as the Herd seeks to position itself for next week's SBC Softball Championship in Troy, Alabama.

Weekend Promotions

Coach Morgan Zerkle

  • Marshall is in its second season under Head Coach Morgan Zerkle. The 2017 All-American for the Herd led the team that season with a .476 average en route to a NCAA Tournament appearance. The Herd has made two NCAA Regionals in its history (2013 & 2017).  
  • Zerkle - the Milton, West Virginia native - has been drafted to the AUSL's Bandits this past January, alongside Assistant Coach Sydney McKinney. 
  • Zerkle earned her 50th win as Head Coach of the Herd on April 22 with a 5-1 victory against Radford.

MARSHALL NOTES

  • The Herd is in a three-way tie for third place alongside Georgia Southern and Coastal Carolina. For the full schedule of the final weekend of the regular season, view HERE. For the standings of the Sun Belt Conference, view HERE.  
  • Marshall hitting is fourth in the conference with a team average of .296. The Herd's pitching has improved, pitching its first back-to-back shutouts of the season last week against Radford (3-0) and the series opener at Georgia Southern (5-0).

ABOUT GEORGIA STATE

  • At 3-18 in SBC play, GSU will not qualify for the 10-team postseason tournament next week in Troy.  
  • The Panthers are led by first-year head coach Becca Mueller. Georgia State has seven seniors Marshall will recognize on Saturday as well. 
  • The Herd is 10-2 all-time against Georgia State, with wins in the last eight games in the series.
