No. 2 Seed Herd Softball Opens Postseason Play in SBC Quarterfinals against No. 7 Coastal

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Postseason play has arrived for the Marshall softball team, who will begin the 2025 Sun Belt Conference Championship Thursday at 2 p.m. eastern 1 central against No. 7 Coastal Carolina.
With a win in the single-elimination tournament, Marshall would advance to Friday's semifinal against the winner of No. 3 Louisiana and No. 6 App State.Â

Coach Morgan Zerkle
- Marshall is in its second season under Head Coach Morgan Zerkle. The 2017 All-American for the Herd led the team that season with a .476 average en route to a NCAA Tournament appearance. The Herd has made two NCAA Regionals in its history (2013 & 2017). Â
- Zerkle - the Milton, West Virginia native - has been drafted to the AUSL's Bandits this past January, alongside Assistant Coach Sydney McKinney.Â
- Zerkle earned her 50th win as the Herd's head coach on Tuesday over Radford.Â
MARSHALL NOTES
- The Herd finished second in the Sun Belt Conference with a 15-9 league record, only behind Texas State at 16-8. On Tuesday, Marshall had two players named to the Sun Belt All-Conference Teams with freshman Diamond Leslie earning First Team honors and sophomore Haleigh Adkins garnering Second Team.Â
- The Herd finished with above a team .300 average for the second-consecutive season under Coach Zerkle. The Herd had the most home runs in the league in SBC play this season (41). Â

ABOUT COASTAL CAROLINA
- Coastal Carolina is the No. 7 seed in the tournament despite having the most overall wins in the league (37). The Chanticleers have hit 83 home runs this season, 15 more than Marshall's second-most overall long balls.
- The Chanticleers' Nicolette Picone was named the SBC Pitcher of the Year.Â
- Coastal took two-of-three in Huntington last month, but would go on to lose each of its final two series while the Herd closed the regular season winning five-of-six in SBC play. Â
