Women’s Soccer Kicks Off 2025 Regular Season at Morehead State Thursday

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall women's soccer opens the 2025-26 athletics season when the Herd visits Morehead State Thursday night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

COACH RAFA SIMOES
- Head Coach Rafa Simoes is in year two leading Marshall's women's soccer program. The former associate with the Herd men's team is a 2018 graduate of the University of Charleston in West Virginia, where he played for then-head coach Chris Grassie.
- Simoes coached 19 newcomers in his first season leading Marshall's women's soccer team. He earned his first win as a head coach on Sept. 1, 2024 in a 1-0 victory over Belmont.
PRE-MATCH NOTES
- Thursday's match starts year two for Coach Simoes. The former associate with the Herd men's program went 3-3-2 at home last season in his first season as a head coach.
- The Herd returns 15 veterans while adding 12 newcomers to this season's roster.
- A trio of players enter their fourth season for the program - Bailey Fisher, Madison Townes, and Alexis Wolgemuth. Fisher is climbing the Marshall all-time recordbook with 12 career goals, five game-winning goals and 48 shots on target in her three seasons playing for the Herd.
ABOUT THE EAGLES
- Morehead State is coming off consecutive NCAA Tournament berths, representing the Ohio Valley Conference. The Eagles were picked 4th in this season's OVC poll.
- Head Coach Paul Cox also enters his second season as a head coach. He is the second coach in program history to post a winning record in his first season.
- Marshall and MSU have opened the last two seasons against each other, ending in a 1-1 draw last season. Two years ago, the Herd won 3-0 in Morehead to start the season. MU leads the all-time series, 7-1-3.
