Women’s Soccer Shifts Focus to Wright State on Wednesday

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Having won its first three games to start the 2025 season, Marshall women's soccer (3-0) travels to Wright State (1-2) for a Wednesday evening contest at 7 p.m.

COACH RAFA SIMOES
- Head Coach Rafa Simoes is in year two leading Marshall's women's soccer program. The former associate with the Herd men's team is a 2018 graduate of the University of Charleston in West Virginia, where he played for then-head coach Chris Grassie.
- Simoes coached 19 newcomers in his first season leading Marshall's women's soccer team. He earned his first win as a head coach on Sept. 1, 2024 in a 1-0 victory over Belmont.
PRE-MATCH NOTES
- With the 3-0 record, Marshall is off to its best start since 2009 when the Herd started 7-0 to begin the season. In 2023, MU was unbeaten through six games with a 5-0-1 record.
- Senior Bailey Fisher has scored a goal in all three of Marshall's contests in 2025, bringing her career total to 15 (T-9th in program history). Her game-winning header on Sunday lifted the Herd to its first win in 11 games trying in Athens. The Hurricane native now has seven game-winning goals (3rd in program history).
- Senior defender Kajsa Ekstrom is the lone field player to be in all 270 minutes so far in the season. The Herd is outscoring its opponents 11-1 in 2025.
ABOUT THE RAIDERS
- Wright State enters Wednesday 1-2, with its win coming against Fairmont State.
- Junior Caitlin Burger leads the Raiders with two goals this season with an assist.
- As was the case on Sunday in Athens, a win for Marshall at Wright State would be its first in Dayton against the Raiders. WSU leads the all-time series, 2-0-1.
