Marshall Cross Country Hosts Thundering Herd XC Invitational Friday

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The 3rd-annual Thundering Herd XC Invitational will take place Friday evening at the Kennedy Center YMCA Complex. The meet will start the 2025 season for Marshall Cross Country.
The women's race will start at 6 p.m. with the men's race set for 6:45 p.m. Both races will be a 5K in length. An awards presentation will conclude the evening at 7:30 p.m.
Admission and parking is free. Concessions and Marshall team posters will be available at the main tent camp by the Kennedy Center.Â
The home meet opens the 2025 season for Marshall Cross Country. The Herd women - who have won the first two editions of the Thundering Herd Invitational - have been picked third in the SBC Preseason Poll. Senior Hannah Wyler finished second at last year's event. Marshall's men were picked fifth in the SBC Preseason Poll. Junior Garrett Ferguson led the team in last year's season opener with a fifth place finish.Â
"It's hard to believe that this is our 3rd annual Thundering Herd XC Invitational," Head Coach Caleb Bowen said. "I love starting the season off with this meet as it sets the tone for the season with excitement for the athletes. We love being able to compete at home in front of our friends, family, and fans. It means so much to the team to be able to do that."Â
"We have some great teams coming to the meet. Nationally ranked NAIA schools in Rio Grande and Shawnee State bring a lot of talent to the meet as well as Ohio University who is ranked 6th in the Great Lakes Region. It's going to be a fun meet competing against some great schools."
