PRE-GAME NOTES
Saturday's contest between Marshall and Middle Tennessee is the 12th all-time battle between the teams. The Herd owns a slim 6-5 advantage thus far, but is only 1-4 at Johnny "Red" Floyd Stadium.
The game serves as a reunion for Marshall cornerback Marvae Myers, who spent the first five years of his career at Middle Tennessee before using an extra year of eligibility to join the Herd.
Each of these teams are 1-2 overall following wins last week. Both are trying to wrap up conference play with a .500 record and a two-game winning streak.
Marshall and Middle Tennessee were Conference USA East Division rivals for several years, playing annually from 2013 to 2021.
The Herd is coming off a contest in which it limited EKU to just 102 yards of total offense.
ABOUT MARSHALL
Marshall heads to Murfreesboro, Tenn., following the team's first win of 2025 and the first head coaching win in the career of Tony Gibson – a 38-7 win over Eastern Kentucky.
Offensively, quarterback Carlos Del Rio-Wilson came in as the Herd's third starter in three games and fared well, finishing 7 of 9 for 108 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for another 58 yards and a score.
Marshall's offensive line started to assert itself in the contest with seven different rushers having at least one carry of double-digit yardage.
Defensively, the Herd was strong from the start as Boogie Trotter intercepted the first pass of the game – the first of two he had on the day – to set the tone.
Linebacker Cannon Lewis continued to excel with nine tackles and a half-sack. In all, Marshall had 10 tackles for loss with five being sacks. The Herd is tied for No. 6 in the nation in sacks with 11.0 on the season.

ABOUT MIDDLE TENNESSEE
Â
Middle Tennessee is led by head coach Derek Mason, who is in his second year with the program and is currently 4-11 overall as their coach.
Offensively, the Blue Raiders feature one of the best Group of Five quarterbacks in the country in Nick Vattiato, who is the lone quarterback in the nation to have at least 7,500 passing yards at his current school.
Defensively, the Blue Raiders are coming off a stellar performance by defensive back Juwon Gaston, who had a pair of interceptions in the come-from-behind win at Nevada. For his efforts, Gaston earned C-USA Defensive Player of the Week honors.
This week will also serve as Homecoming for Middle Tennessee.
