HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall (5-3-1) overcame an early red card and played with 10 for more than 75 minutes, rallying behind backup goalkeeper Katie McCutcheon to secure a 3-2 win over Georgia State on Sunday night in their Sun Belt Conference home opener.
"One of the craziest games I've ever been a part of, a game we will remember forever" Head Coach Rafa Simoes said. "We had Katie McCutcheon step up as a freshman saving balls. Once we had a player down we still were brave and played our game, I am a very proud coach."
Marshall's resilience defined the night after starting keeper Emma Durand was sent off in the 14th minute for denying a goal-scoring opportunity.

Forced to adjust, the Herd continued to attack, scoring on a penalty kick by senior Bailey Fisher in the 28th minute, her fifth goal of the season and 17th career tally.

Georgia State responded two minutes later, converting a penalty of their own to trim the margin to 2-1.
The decisive third goal came as Fernanda Dantas crossed in a well placed corner in the 62nd minute, providing a vital cushion. The Panthers pulled one back in the 79th minute, but McCutcheon produced four key saves to preserve the win in a frantic final stretch.
