Women’s Soccer Faces SBC Litmus Test at Defending Champions JMU Thursday

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Winners of two straight, Marshall Women's Soccer (6-3-1, 2-1-1 SBC) travels to Harrisonburg to face the defending Sun Belt Conference regular season and tournament champions, JMU (5-3-4, 1-1-2 SBC).
Kickoff from Sentara Park is at 7 p.m. Thursday evening.

COACH RAFA SIMOES
- Head Coach Rafa Simoes is in year two leading Marshall's women's soccer program. The former associate with the Herd men's team is a 2018 graduate of the University of Charleston in West Virginia, where he played for then-head coach Chris Grassie.
- Simoes coached 19 newcomers in his first season leading Marshall's women's soccer team. He earned his first win as a head coach on Sept. 1, 2024 in a 1-0 victory over Belmont.
PRE-MATCH NOTES
- Sophomore fullback Fernanda Dantas has been the catalyst of a Marshall offense which has scored multiple goals in its last three matches. Dantas provided two assists and scored directly off a corner in the team's 3-0 win over Arkansas State Saturday. The Salvador, Brazil native leads the league with seven assists.
- Freshman goalkeeper Katie McCutcheon pitched a shutout in her first-collegiate start Saturday after entering in relief in Marshall's prior match. The Herd defense did not allow a shot on target in Saturday's win. This was the first time MU has kept a conference opponent without a shot on target since at least 2004.

ABOUT THE DUKES
- The defending champions have been held to a pair of draws against Coastal Carolina and Troy, with a loss to Old Dominion. The Dukes did defeat Georgia Southern, 5-1 in its league win.
- Sophomore forward Ginny Lackey was named the SBC's Preseason Player of the Year, and is tied for the league lead with seven goals.
- JMU leads the all-time series, 4-1-1.
