COACH RAFA SIMOES

  • Head Coach Rafa Simoes is in year two leading Marshall's women's soccer program. The former associate with the Herd men's team is a 2018 graduate of the University of Charleston in West Virginia, where he played for then-head coach Chris Grassie.
  • Simoes coached 19 newcomers in his first season leading Marshall's women's soccer team. He earned his first win as a head coach on Sept. 1, 2024 in a 1-0 victory over Belmont.

PRE-MATCH NOTES

  • Sophomore fullback Fernanda Dantas has been the catalyst of a Marshall offense which has scored multiple goals in its last three matches. Dantas provided two assists and scored directly off a corner in the team's 3-0 win over Arkansas State Saturday. The Salvador, Brazil native leads the league with seven assists.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Katie McCutcheon pitched a shutout in her first-collegiate start Saturday after entering in relief in Marshall's prior match. The Herd defense did not allow a shot on target in Saturday's win. This was the first time MU has kept a conference opponent without a shot on target since at least 2004.
  • Marshall is currently second in the SBC East division standings. For full standings, view HERE

ABOUT THE DUKES

  • The defending champions have been held to a pair of draws against Coastal Carolina and Troy, with a loss to Old Dominion. The Dukes did defeat Georgia Southern, 5-1 in its league win.
  • Sophomore forward Ginny Lackey was named the SBC's Preseason Player of the Year, and is tied for the league lead with seven goals.
  • JMU leads the all-time series, 4-1-1.
