JONESBORO, Ark. – The Marshall University Men's Basketball Team (14-8, 6-4 SBC) surged in the second half to defeat Arkansas State 70-61 at First National Bank Arena on Saturday afternoon in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

"Heck of a game, heck of a team win. Couldn't be more proud of these guys with a bounce back from the Texas State loss," Herd Men's Basketball Head Coach Cornelius 'Corny' Jackson said. "We had some guys step up. Wilson, he obviously had 23 points, but one of the most impressive things to me is his right rebounds, six offensive (rebounds). He got some key rebounds late. Shamarrie stepped up. Jalen was 0-for-7, but he had seven rebounds, eight assists, two turnovers. It was a great team win today."

In a game defined by tense momentum swings and clutch execution, the Herd leaned on Wilson Dubinsky, who poured in a season-high 23 points. Dubinsky knocked down 6-of-9 from beyond the arc, including a critical three-pointer with 9:23 left that stretched the lead to eight and stifled an Arkansas State rally. He also sealed the win with a pair of free throws in the closing seconds.

Shamarrie Hugie delivered his best performance in a Marshall uniform, coming off the bench to score a career-high 17 points on 6-for-9 shooting. Hugie's layup with 6:56 remaining gave the Herd their largest lead at 66-54, energizing a dominant bench unit that outscored the Red Wolves reserves 46-21. Noah Otshudi joined them in double figures with 12 points, adding four rebounds and two steals while surpassing the 300 career-point milestone.

The Herd's defense took center stage after halftime. Marshall held Arkansas State to just 32.8 percent shooting for the game and a mere 23 percent in the second half, limiting the hosts to only 23 points after the break. Matt Van Komen anchored the paint with three of the Herd's five blocks. Speer tallied eight assists, seven rebounds, and three steals.

Marshall carried a three-point lead into halftime at 41-38, setting the stage for a tightly contested second half in front of 3,932 fans. After weathering a series of ties and lead changes, the Herd's composure and balanced attack proved decisive down the stretch. Arkansas State was paced by 17 points from Matt Hayman, but the Red Wolves could not overcome Marshall's perimeter shooting and defensive intensity.

Bench production, three-point efficiency and clutch defense all combined for a total team victory. The Herd's 46 bench points marked their second-highest total of the season.
