COACH RAFA SIMOES
- Head Coach Rafa Simoes is in his third season leading the MU Women's Soccer program. The former associate with the Herd men's team is a 2018 graduate of the University of Charleston in West Virginia, where he played for then-head coach Chris Grassie.
- Simoes and the Herd had a resurgent 2025 season. In his second year as skipper for MU, Simoes led the team to win its most games in a decade with four All-Conference selections, also the program's most since 2015.
PRE-MATCH NOTES
- Marshall's 2-1 victory over the SBC Preseason Favorites, JMU could be defined as a signature win for Coach Simoes and the Herd. The win was MU's first over JMU since joining the SBC in 2022, a trend Marshall will look to continue against Georgia Southern, entering 0-3-1 against the Eagles since 2022.
- The Herd has scored eight goals from set pieces this season. Geovanna Souza, who leads the team with four assists, has set up defender Maria Chaves for a pair of goals off corner kicks this year, including last week's match winner.
- With seven points, Marshall is tied with App State and Louisiana. Following JMU's Thursday night victory to open Matchday 4, Marshall can claim the top spot with a win Sunday.
ABOUT THE EAGLES
- Georgia Southern is 7-2-2 with two wins in three league matches so far. Veteran head coach Chris Adams and the Eagles won the SBC regular season title in 2022.
- Ten different players have scored a goal for the balanced Eagles this season, freshman Anna Braziunas leads the team with four goals and an assist.
- GS leads the all-time series, 4-2-1.
