GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Marshall University Swimming and Diving Team's day three of the American Conference Championship was highlighted by Lauren McNamara winning the 200 Butterfly and breaking the program record twice in one day.
Â
"What an incredible evening," Herd Swimming and Diving Head Coach Ian Walsh said. "This team has so much grit. Each swim today inspired the next team member behind them. It was a lot of fun to see that momentum build through the session."
Â
McNamara, a sophomore from Flat Rock, Michigan, broke the program record for the fourth time with a time of 1:58.25 in Prelims, before setting the record for the fifth time in the A Final in 1:58.16 to become an American Conference Champion.
Â
"Lolo's championship was a culmination of our entire team. This sport, by nature, is seen as individual. All our women played a part in that performance. It was a beautiful race execution and I couldn't be more proud of her."
Â
MU kicked off the night session with Maddie Emment, Elyse Wood, Preslava Tosheva and Molly Warner taking fourth in the 800 Freestyle Relay in 7:12.09, the fifth fastest time in program history.
Â
"Our 800 Free Relay set the tone for the evening, swimming the 5th Fastest in program history and placing 4th overall. All of our individual finalists did a great job moving through their adjustments from prelims to finals."
Â
Warner also took seventh in the 200 Butterfly A Final with Katie Fisher and Sadie Rogers also scoring points for The Herd by reaching the B and C Finals, respectively.
Â
Mia McBride celebrated her birthday with an appearance in the 100 Backstroke A Final taking 8th place. Abby Adams and Lauren Ramsey each made the 100 Backstroke C Final with Adams taking the heat as the pair finished 17th and 18th overall in the event.
Â
In the 100 Breaststroke, Isabelle Cameron took 14th with a B Final appearance and Maddy Akin winning the C Final and taking 17th overall.
"The team has done a great job of taking advantage of our prelim swims. We'll enjoy celebrating the accomplishments tonight and be ready to go tomorrow morning."
