Justin Lipscomb’s School Record Leads Herd on Day One of Jewel City Invitational

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Track and Field opened its final home meet of the season strong inside the Chris Cline Athletic Complex. The Herd picked up multiple event wins and several podium finishes, highlighted by Justin Lipscomb's new school record time of 2:28.88 set in the Men's 1K.
Field events followed suit with wins from Trashaun Smith in the Men's High Jump, Lara Check in the Women's Long Jump and Gabriel Urraca in the Men's Shot Put and Cole Miller in the Men's Long Jump.
The evening also saw the team cheer on the 'Fastest Kids in Huntington' promotion.
Track Events
• Men's 1000m: Justin Lipscomb claimed first place with a time of 2:27.91, followed closely by Maxton Sowers in second at 2:28.88.
• Women's 5000m: Ellie Hosaflook finished fourth with a time of 18:41.39.
Field Events
• Men's High Jump: Trashaun Smith secured the event title at 2.11m. Otenidi Omot placed second with a mark of 2.03m, and Ryan Muktar rounded out the top three at 2.03m.
• Women's High Jump: Alycia Rivera finished second, clearing 1.65m, and Elicia Wood took third at 1.60m.
• Women's Long Jump: Lara Check led the way at 6.06m for first place, with Lakesha Smith in second at 5.88m.
• Men's Long Jump: Cole Miller wins the event with a season-best 7.17m jump.
• Men's Shot Put: Gabriel Urraca threw 16.57m to earn the win.
• Women's Shot Put: Markayla Moore reached the podium in third at 13.84m.
UP NEXT
Day two begins at 10:30 a.m. with a Senior Day celebration to honor 16 graduates. Field events will follow suit at 11 with track events starting at noon.
