Marshall Softball Hosts Georgia Southern For Three-Game Set at Dot Hicks Field

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall Softball welcomes the Georgia Southern Eagles to Dot Hicks Field for its first Sun Belt Conference home series of 2026. Game one of a three-game series in Huntington is set for 6 p.m. Friday evening.

Coach Morgan Zerkle
- Head Coach Morgan Zerkle is in her 3rd season as head coach at her alma mater. The 2017 All-American for the Herd led the team that season with a .476 average en route to a NCAA Tournament appearance. The Herd has made two NCAA Regionals in its history (2013 & 2017).
- Marshall vaulted up to a 2nd place finish in the Sun Belt Conference in season two under Zerkle. The Herd improved its win total by six games with five more SBC victories from the season prior.
- Zerkle - the Milton, West Virginia native - plays professionally for the AUSL's Chicago Bandits. She is also on the active Team USA Softball roster.
MARSHALL NOTES
- Marshall is ranked No. 33 in RPI which leads the SBC. All 12 of the league's members are ranked within the top 100 of the metric, making the conference the third-highest ranked league in NCAA DI behind the SEC and Big 12.
- Thundering Herd pitching has leaped up to 2nd in the league in pitching earned run average with a 2.92 ERA. The trio of Jules King, Paige Maynard, and Maddie Veal have all earned at least five victories in the circle. King leads the team and is 5th in the league with 80 strikeouts.
- MU's hitting took a step forward in its final game at Georgia State with three home runs, the 13th game this season with multiple home runs for the Marshall offense. Marshall's 45 home runs lead the league.

ABOUT GEORGIA SOUTHERN
- Georgia Southern has relied on its pitching depth as well, with veteran seniors Alana Barnard and Bailey Holland pitching the bulk of Georgia Southern's innings. Barnard leads the Eagles with a 3.83 ERA and hurled a complete-game shutout in the series finale between MU and GS last year.
- Freshman Jaycee Bilbrey leads the team with a .389 average. Sophomore Kayla Christensen has a team-high 31 hits with a .360 average.
- Marshall has a 25-9 advantage in the all-time series. The Herd is 8-2 against the Eagles since joining the SBC in 2023.
