Herd T&F Records Four Top-Five Marks on First Day of Outdoor Season

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Marshall Track and Field launched its outdoor campaign with a confident statement at the 2026 Hampton Inn River City Relays. The Herd notched numerous individual victories and podium finishes across both track and field events, with three Top-3 program marks.
Headlining the meet, Marshall swept podiums in high jump, long jump, hammer throw and sprints with Justin Lipscomb, Samari McCord, and Trashaun Smith notching the program marks.
Track Events
Bay'Andria Hodges captured first in the women's 200 meters with a time of 23.89. Iniya Charlton finished fifth (24.49), Emma Henry placed seventh (24.60) and Haleigh Crum ninth (24.66). On the men's side, Samari McCord earned second [top collegiate finisher] in the 200 meters (21.27) - #2 all-time in program history. Jonathan Owusu took eighth (21.67) and Cole Friedman finished ninth (21.83). Justin Lipscomb claimed the men's 5K with a winning time of 14:24.59 - #3 all-time in program history and teammate Brady Dawkins finished fourth (15:00.21). In the women's 5,000 meters, Asha Bora finished runner-up at 17:55.57. Taylor Spencer secured second in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:57.81). AJ Young placed second in the men's 400 hurdles (53.69), with Myah Boze fifth (1:05.33) and Azurie Garrett ninth (1:08.56) in the women's 400 hurdles. In the 1500m, Maxton Sowers clocked 3:53.86 for seventh, while Garrett Ferguson placed thirteenth (4:00.90). On the women's side, Destiny Berryman was eighth (4:44.21), Maggie Froning ninth (4:47.31) and Lauren Sonski thirteenth (4:59.45).
Field Events
In men's high jump, Trashaun Smith took the victory with a leap of 2.10 meters - #2 all-time in program history, followed by Ryan Muktar in second at 2.05 meters, Evan Weder third at 2.00 meters and Otenidi Omot fourth, also clearing 2.00 meters. On the women's side, Lara Check soared to first in long jump with a mark of 6.04 meters, Lakesha Smith placed third (5.80 meters), Mara Pearson finished fourth (5.59 meters) and Iniya Charlton was eighth (5.43 meters). Cole Miller won the men's long jump at 7.16 meters, with Kylan Overstreet fourth (6.84 meters), Grant Swider fifth (6.76 meters) and Camron Hamby eighth (6.70 meters). In the hammer throw, Markayla Moore delivered a winning toss of 57.18 meters, with Halie Wynter second (50.76 meters) and Jenna Olsen third (46.01 meters). On the men's side, Gradian Graham took first (53.88 meters), Brooks Theis second (53.32 meters) and Anthony Belcher third (48.87 meters). In shot put, Gabriel Urraca secured the men's title with a throw of 16.78 meters, while Markayla Moore added a women's runner-up finish at 14.18 meters.
