Marshall Completes Sweep of Georgia Southern with Program Record-Tying Six Home Runs

3/22/2026 4:03:00 PM | Softball

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Marshall Softball finished off Georgia Southern Sunday afternoon, 9-3 to complete a three-game weekend sweep at Dot Hicks Field. The Herd is now 22-9 overall and 5-1 in SBC play, alone atop the league standings after two weeks of conference action.

The Herd hit six home runs Sunday, matching a single-game program record set twice before, both in the last three seasons under Head Coach Morgan Zerkle.

"Super fun weekend at the Dot! Bats were hot, pitching was elite and defense was perfect," Coach Zerkle said. "Hope we can keep this momentum against a good Miami team and into Texas State."

Redshirt-sophomore Chandler Hoskins led off scoring for Marshall with a two-run blast to left field. Her third of the season was the first of the six MU would hit to the left of the centerfield batters' eye.

Honestly my approach today was to see a strike and hit it, said Hoskins. With her throwing outside the last pitch I knew she was going to come in. I just wanted to take advantage of that and I did and I think we all did that today, just a good day all around.

Ava Blake followed Hoskins for Marshall's second time going back-to-back this season. She is fourth in the SBC with 11 home runs directly behind Sydni Burko, whose 12th an inning later followed Tia Titi's leadoff homer in the 2nd.

Diamond Leslie and Abby Darnley each knocked out a pair in the 5th to cap a six home run, 13 hit performance for the Herd's offense.

The pitching Sunday was led by committee with starter Jules King earning her eighth win in the circle. King struck out six, bringing her total to 89 on the season, fourth-most in the conference. The defense behind the Herd's pitching staff played error-free softball as it had all weekend long in the sweep.
