Marshall Softball Hosts Miami in Crucial Midweek Tuesday at Dot Hicks Field

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Sun Belt Conference-leading Marshall Thundering Herd hosts old rival Miami (Ohio) in a battle of 20-plus win teams Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Dot Hicks Field. The Herd (22-9) and RedHawks (21-7) will play one game Tuesday before returning to conference play this weekend.

Coach Morgan Zerkle
- Head Coach Morgan Zerkle is in her 3rd season as head coach at her alma mater. The 2017 All-American for the Herd led the team that season with a .476 average en route to a NCAA Tournament appearance. The Herd has made two NCAA Regionals in its history (2013 & 2017). Â
- Marshall vaulted up to a 2nd place finish in the Sun Belt Conference in season two under Zerkle. The Herd improved its win total by six games with five more SBC victories from the season prior.Â
- Zerkle - the Milton, West Virginia native - plays professionally for the AUSL's Chicago Bandits. She is also on the active Team USA Softball roster.Â
MARSHALL NOTES
- Marshall is ranked No. 32 in RPI which leads the SBC. The Herd is ranked Top-10 in two Mid-Major Polls according to DISoftball (No. 8) and Softball America (No. 9). The RedHawks are No. 14 and 13 in the same two polls.
- The Herd matched a program-record with six home runs on Sunday. The previous two occasions where MU hit six long balls were both set under Head Coach Morgan Zerkle. The team is at 54 home runs this season, which ranks 4th all-time in program history. 79 home runs is the number in question for an all-time program record.Â
- Paige Maynard's 2.03 ERA ranks second in the Sun Belt Conference. The team's 2.93 ERA is also second-best in the league.Â

ABOUT MIAMI
- Miami has won the last six MAC Regular Season Championships and has made four-consecutive NCAA Regional appearances based on its last four MAC Tournament Titles. The RedHawks again have the strongest overall record in the conference at 21-7, but have stumbled out of the gates in league play with a 3-3 conference record so far.
- Senior Bailey Manos leads the MAC with 10 home runs and 37 RBI.Â
- Marshall leads the all-time series, 22-13. The Herd won in Oxford 10-7 last season in the first meeting between the two sides since 2017.
