Herd Softball’s Rally Falls Short at Louisiana

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Marshall sophomore Sydni Burko hit her 19th home run of the season, making her one off from tying the program's individual single-season total of 20 in the midst of the Herd's (35-14, 15-5 SBC) rally effort. MU fell behind 5-0 after three innings, before nearly rallying in a 5-3 loss to Louisiana.

Burko's 19 homers this year ties Autumn Owen in 2023 and Mya Stevenson from a season prior. One more would match Stevenson's 20 in 2019, and Saige Pye from 2022 for most all-time in a single-season program history.
The Herd scored twice in its final at-bat, with Tia Titi's sacrifice fly scoring Ava Blake, who walked for the second time Saturday following the Burko homer.
Redshirt-sophomore Chandler Hoskins led Marshall with a 2-for-2 day, she drove in Bella Gerlach in the 6th to get the Herd on the board, something MU has done in all 49 games it has played in 2026.
Senior Paige Maynard finished out the game for the Herd, pitching the final 3.2, striking out two while allowing just two hits.
