Herd falls to Bobcats on Friday

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Marshall University Baseball team (23-30, 13-16 SBC) fell 12-9 in game two of its series against Texas State (33-22, 15-14 SBC) on Friday in San Marcos, Texas.

"We fought a good fight tonight, but we're unable to prevent their big hits. Must win game tomorrow," Herd Baseball Head Coach Greg Beals said.

Evan Bottone hit his seventh homer of the season during his 27th multi-hit effort of the season to go with four RBI. Tyler Kamerer registered a three-hit game with his 20th double of the season.
Â
Jackson Halter, AJ Havrilla and Jackson Golden also had two-hit contests with Ethan Murdoch hitting his sixth home run of the season.

Manny Salas started the scoring for the Bobcats in the bottom of the first with a solo homer.
Â
However, MU answered in the top of the third. Halter brought home two runs with a single, Murdoch brought home one with a bases-loaded walk and Mason Onate plated Havrilla with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-1.

Texas State then saw Salas, Jaquae Stewart and Clayton Namken hit back-to-back-to-back homers in the bottom of the third to tie the game 4-4.

The Bobcats then tallied three more runs in the bottom of the fourth, but the Herd saw Murdoch hit a solo blast and Bottone launch a three-run homer to take an 8-7 lead.

The see-saw battle continued Chase Mora hitting a two-run longball in the bottom of the sixth to see the home side take a 9-8 advantage. However, a Bottone RBI single tied the game in the top of the seventh.

Texas State dealt the final blow in the bottom of the seventh with Salas hitting his third homer of the game and a Namken two-run homer for the final three runs of the game.

The Herd is set to close the regular season on Saturday in the series finale at Texas State on Saturday at 2 p.m. EST/1 p.m. CST.
