Lara Check Takes Gold as Herd T&F Closes SBC Outdoor Championships

MOBILE, Ala. - Marshall closed the 2026 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships with its strongest day, with 17 scorers, including four podium finishes.Â
The most notable podium finish came from Lara Check, winner of the Long Jump with a 6.30m jump. Check swept the Long Jump gold medals from 2026 after taking the Indoor title last February. The senior is #2 all-time in program history in the event and in position to compete in the NCAA Regional at Kentucky next week.Â
Other podium finishes included Otenidi Omot finishing 2nd in Triple Jump, setting one of the three of the Herd's school records Saturday with a mark of 15.64m. The event which Marshall has excelled in all season saw Cam Hamby finish 3rd and Trashaun Smith 4th.
Bay'Andria Hodges additionally raced a time of 11.42 in the 100m finals, breaking her own school record from Friday. Her record-times broke Isatu Fofanah's 11.49 mark from 2015.
The women's 4x100 relay scored the team's third school record time of 44.67 to finish 2nd. The team of Iniya Charlton, Emma Henry, Bay'Andria Hodges, and Lakesha Smith is the first to break 45 seconds.
Sophomore Myah Boze scored her first podium finish in the 400m Hurdles with a time of 58.96. She finishes as Marshall's high point scorer between the 400m Hurdles, 100m Hurdles and 4x400 relay.Â
As a team, the Marshall men finished 8th with 46 points, by far the most points the team has scored since returning as a program in 2023. The women finished 10th with 52 points.Â
